For detailed checklists, explore our pet mattress buyer guides: core comparison, cover care and water protection, and sample and packaging approval.

1. Who is the product for?

Define the target pet size, retail price band, sales channel and intended use. A travel-friendly mat, an entry-level dog bed and a furniture-style upholstered bed require different materials and packing decisions.

2. What exactly is inside the mattress?

Ask the supplier to name the support structure rather than accepting a broad phrase such as “orthopedic filling.” Two useful directions are a coir-based firm structure and a mini pocket spring structure with more independent response. Neither is automatically better for every brief.

QuestionWhy it matters
Core type and layer orderDetermines feel, thickness and product story.
Finished product heightHelps compare constructions and shipping volume.
Edge constructionAffects shape, appearance and cover fit.

3. Are the quoted dimensions finished-product dimensions?

Clarify length, width and height after assembly, plus the acceptable tolerance. Do not rely only on labels such as S, M or L because sizing conventions vary by supplier.

4. Is the cover removable, and what is each panel made from?

Confirm the top, side and bottom materials, zipper placement, color reference and whether the cover can be removed. “Washable” should only be used when the exact care method and tested component are clear.

5. Which performance claims are actually supported?

Words such as waterproof, orthopedic, anti-slip and durable should be tied to a defined material or construction. Ask whether “waterproof” means a waterproof fabric, a protective liner, or a tested finished product. Avoid medical or therapeutic promises unless the supporting evidence is appropriate for the destination market.

6. What will the sample confirm?

A sample should establish the approved construction, dimensions, appearance, fabric, label position and packaging direction. Ask what can still change after sample approval and whether a revised sample is needed if the core or cover changes.

7. How is MOQ calculated?

MOQ can depend on fabric color, core type, size assortment, logo method and packaging. Request a breakdown instead of assuming one MOQ applies to every combination. If you need several sizes, state the quantity per size.

8. How will the product be packed?

Pet bedding is bulky, so packing can materially affect landed cost and presentation. Confirm individual packing, compression if applicable, recovery expectations, carton dimensions, gross weight and the number of units per carton.

9. What will be checked before shipment?

Create measurable checkpoints: finished size and tolerance, color reference, seam appearance, zipper function, logo placement, labels, packing, carton marks and order quantity. If you require testing, name the exact material, standard and market.

10. What should be in the first inquiry?

A focused inquiry gets a more useful answer. Include:

  • Product type and reference image
  • Target finished dimensions and quantity per size
  • Preferred support core and cover direction
  • Branding and packaging requirements
  • Destination market and requested testing
  • Target order quantity, sample need and timing

Turn these answers into a supplier-ready brief.
