Pet Mattress Sample Approval and Packaging: An Importer’s Checklist

Approve the mattress and its packing method together. A sample approval should identify the exact construction, finished dimensions, cover and packaging—not just confirm that the product looks like a reference photo.

Create a sample record that can be checked later

Give each sample a reference code and keep dated photos with a written specification. For Senzero’s pet mattress program, the core choice and cover are confirmed per project. Record the complete construction rather than assuming that all samples within the same collection are identical.

  • Finished length, width and height, with agreed measurement method and tolerances.
  • Core option, layer order and any agreed edge construction.
  • Top, side and bottom cover materials; colour reference; quilting and seams.
  • Opening or zipper, branding position and approved care instructions.
  • Individual packing, carton arrangement, carton marks and quantities.

Keep the sample code on both the approval record and quotation. If fabric, core, dimensions or packing changes later, ask which part of the approval needs to be repeated.

Do not assume every mattress can be roll packed

Compression and roll packing are specification-dependent. A method suitable for one construction should not be transferred to another just because both are pet mattresses. Ask the supplier to confirm suitability for the exact core, comfort layers, cover and finished height.

When a reduced-volume packing method is proposed, request a trial with the intended packing configuration. Agree the storage interval, unpacking instructions, assessment time and acceptance criteria before evaluating the result. This guide does not prescribe a universal recovery time or promise a compression ratio.

Check the unpacked product, not only the carton

After the agreed trial, check dimensions, shape, edge condition, quilting, cover fit, zipper operation and any visible changes against the approved reference. Use the same measurement method before and after packing. Record the outcome and photographs; a smaller box is not an approval if the product fails the agreed checks.

Ask whether the proposed trial represents the expected storage and shipping conditions. If it does not, record that limitation rather than describing the result as proof for every route or storage period.

Compare shipping volume on a consistent basis

Request outer carton dimensions, gross weight and units per carton. Confirm whether dimensions are in centimetres or inches and whether the quotation includes pallets or other outer packaging.

Carton volume in cubic metres = length × width × height in centimetres ÷ 1,000,000. Divide that volume by units per carton to compare carton volume per unit.

Illustrative calculation only: an 80 × 60 × 40 cm carton has a volume of 0.192 m³. If it contains four units, carton volume per unit is 0.048 m³. These are not Senzero product packing specifications. Freight cost also depends on the route, service, weight, charges and packing configuration; volume alone is not a landed-cost quotation.

Send a clear approval request

“Please confirm the sample code, complete construction, finished dimensions and tolerances. Attach the proposed packing method, units per carton, outer carton dimensions and gross weight. For compression or roll packing, provide the agreed trial conditions and post-unpacking checks. Identify any changes that require a revised sample.”

Attach quantities by size and your destination market when requesting a quotation. Use the blank buying checklist to assemble the brief, then compare core options and cover requirements if those decisions are still open.

Discuss your pet mattress brief.

Send your size, quantity, core preference and destination market. Ask us to identify what is confirmed and what requires a sample.
