Pocket Spring Dog Mattresses: What to Check Before Placing a Wholesale Order
Choosing a pocket spring dog mattress for your product range takes more than comparing photographs and prices. Buyers need to understand the complete mattress construction, the usable sleeping area, the cover design, and how the finished product will be packed.
This guide explains what to ask a pet mattress supplier before approving a sample or placing a wholesale order.
Start with the Complete Mattress Construction
“Pocket spring” describes one part of a mattress. It does not explain every layer between the pet and the floor.
Ask your supplier for a cross-section photograph or a clearly labelled construction diagram. The specification should identify:
- The spring unit and its dimensions.
- Any cushioning layers above and below it.
- The materials separating the spring unit from the outer cover.
- The edge construction and bottom fabric.
- Which components can be removed or replaced.
Two mattresses described as pocket spring products may use different combinations of materials. Compare the complete construction rather than treating the spring label as a guarantee of quality.
Check the Usable Sleeping Area
Overall dimensions and usable sleeping space are not always the same. Raised edges, bolsters, and surrounding furniture can reduce the area available for a pet to stretch out.
For each size, request the overall length, width, and height, together with the dimensions of the flat sleeping surface. Confirm how the supplier measures the product and what dimensional tolerances apply.
If you plan to offer several sizes, use a consistent measurement method across the range. This makes your product listings easier for customers to understand and reduces ambiguity when inspecting samples.
Separate Cover Care from Core Care
A removable cover is not automatically machine washable. A washable cover also does not mean the spring core can be washed.
Before writing customer-facing care instructions, confirm:
- Which parts are removable.
- Which parts can be washed, and by what method.
- The recommended washing temperature and drying method.
- Whether a protective inner liner is included.
- Whether water protection applies to the cover, liner, or another component.
For private label orders, make sure the care label matches the approved materials and construction.
Evaluate the Sample Against a Written Checklist
A sample should help you check the specifications you intend to buy.
Compare its measurements with the supplier’s specification sheet. Inspect the seams, zipper access, cover fit, edges, and underside. Remove and refit the cover if that is part of the intended care routine.
Ask for evidence supporting any advertised performance claims. Terms such as “orthopedic,” “waterproof,” and “chew-resistant” should not replace a clear explanation of what has actually been tested.
Record the approved sample’s materials, dimensions, photographs, and packaging details so both parties have the same reference for production.
Confirm Packaging Before Comparing Shipping Costs
Do not assume every pocket spring dog mattress can use the same compression or packing method.
Ask the supplier to confirm the packaging available for the exact model you are ordering. Request packed dimensions, gross weight, units per carton, and unpacking instructions.
If compression is proposed, ask how recovery has been evaluated for that construction and what acceptance criteria apply. Shipping comparisons should use confirmed packing data rather than estimates borrowed from another mattress.
Send a Clear Brief to Your Pet Mattress Supplier
A useful enquiry includes your target market, preferred sizes, expected order quantity, cover requirements, branding needs, and sales channel.
For a Senzero Pet project enquiry, share these details together with any reference images. Ask for confirmation of the available construction, sample arrangements, customisation options, and packaging for your selected product.
The goal is a quotation you can compare—and a sample that represents the product you intend to sell.
Put your mattress brief into writing.
Send your dimensions, quantity mix, core preference and destination. Identify requirements still awaiting sample confirmation.
